The Ever-green Jawahar (Nehru) Jacket
Today is the 126th Birth Anniversary of the First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. We are pleased to share with you, today, one of our signature garments – the Jawahar Jacket – as a mark of respect for Pandit Nehru.
The Jawahar Jacket, also known as Nehru Jacket, is an evergreen style, it has conventionally been worn by the politicians, and is also the ensemble of choice of the current Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.
It was named after the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
The Nehru jacket, or the “band gale ka coat” as some people prefer to call it, was made quite popular in the west during the late 1960s and the early 1970s by the Beatles.
A Nehru jacket was worn by James Bond (Sean Connery) in Dr. No.
The jacket has, of late, become very popular among the youth in India, after the well known stand up comedian, Kapil Sharma, wore a wide variety of these in his show, Comedy Nights with Kapil.

The jacket is single breasted with no lapels having five or six buttons in the front, with the typical mandarin collar. The collar can be slightly open at front or closed by a hook. There is one breast pocket and two stomach pockets on the front side and two pockets inside.
